This technology makes use of acoustical sound waves in the range below the threshold of human hearing (up to 15-20 Hz). These Shock Waves cause cavitation, i.e., producing a space between the liquid-solid interfaces. Consequently, this technique has the ability to destroy cells found between the liquid-solid interfaces. In the human body the destruction of the cells found at the liquid-solid interfaces also occurs and, therefore, the medical profession initially applied this technique to remove calcification caused by wounds, inflammation and degenerative diseases.
This technology was first applied to pulverize kidney stones and to cure joint disease in the spinal column. In time, the use of this technique expanded to other fields.
Cosmeticians in Europe have applied it for some time to treat cellulitis. Shock Waves are also utilized in the field of sport medicine in the treatment of injuries, inflammations, accumulation of salts and osteoporosis, all of which cause pain and limit mobility. These ailments have a “snowballing” effect and become chronic and extremely difficult to cure; they do not go away without treatment.
The Shock Wave treatment protocol involves the use of waves of defined medicinal properties introduced into the body tissue (up to a depth of 80 mm) and acting on the affected area. The natural body functions are activated, rejuvenating the cells and improving the blood flow and metabolism in the region under treatment. As soon as the “snowballing” effect is stopped a reduction in pain is felt and it may even disappear in the course of the treatment.
